I’d done some online research on the testing of mask filter options and Filti popped up a few times with positive results. I bought the white Filti fabric and made patterns for my mask size and my sons. You could just cut a flat piece, or buy the pre-cut inserts or Filti masks, but I wanted to fit the curves of our hand sewn fitted masks. The Filti material is easy to sew by hand or machine. I fold the sewn filters in half, and pull through the the mask with a large safety pin. It’s been working well, and I feel better knowing there is extra protection in our masks. This time I’m going to buy the green fabric which makes it easier to tell the outward facing side of the filter material from the inward facing side.

I have used this fabric for inserts for our extended family of all shapes and sizes. Having the ability to cut the fabric to insert into the different masks made for everybody is invaluable. It’s been working very well so far, and I am secure in knowing I’m doing the best I can for all of us in these times.
Once cut, the insert is very easy to fit inside the pocket with almost any sewing tool to avoid overhandling.
If I do need to order again, it will be the green fabric, as that makes it easier for everyone to know which side should face out.

This material is top notch for use as an insertable filter inside a fabric mask with a pocket. Cut to fit – first make a paper pattern of the sewn edges of the pocket (which should encompass all areas of the mask through which you can breathe – or buy another mask). Then trace the pattern many times on the fabric, and cut.
We tested this fabric, on its own (not inside a mask pocket):
1. It holds water longer than 2 minutes (we stopped the test at that point) – with no drips at all, and not even tiny drops on the underside.
2. We can’t blow out or even move a flame through it, and
3. We can’t smell most smells (lemon, mint, rosemary, smoke) through it.

I have been using filti material since the pandemic started. I make a cup style mask that everyone loves. You can breathe and talk through a filti mask. Plus I give each person one of filtis descriptions about N95 with their mask. I also use it as a liner for fancy masks. I purchase lovely breathable material line it with filti and people have a pretty mask that is also a N95. I appreciate that fact that it is made here in the USA as well.

They are very comfortable to wear, no pulling on the ears or slipping down past the nose.
The air flow is incredible too, I do not have the “panic” that I have experienced with other face masks!

I would like to clean the filters that I’ve replaced but the guidance I read using a pan of water, aluminum and placing them in a oven is not detailed enough for meto use. I always include the MSDS sheet of the Filti fabric with all my masks. I started with the original white fabric until they came out with the green one, which had same properties but I swear was slightly thinner and not as “stiff” as the white, but one rep told me yes, and the other said no. I’ve made over 1000 masks with the Filti fabric I think after cutting and sewing them into my fabric masks, I can feel the difference. But I think they have also started making the white the same now. I think the green “sheds” a bit more because it is softer – I just use a sticky roller to pick up the fibrous threads off the fabric side of the mask; not a big deal. All the same, great product. I sew it as the second layer of my fabric masks. No need for a third layer, masks are still light enough yet sits well on face that it doesn’t flop around; breathable and doesn’t stick to your skin. I trust this product – great customer interaction plus they are offering other products for home too. Will continue to buy their products. Thank you for providing us!

I have been sewing cotton masks for friends and family since March 2020, and for at-risk groups since July. I live in California and when the smoke from forest fires hit our area the air was so bad you really couldn’t go outside without an N95, which no one could get. I sewed fitted filters for the mask pattern I use (which fits really well around the nose, cheeks and chin, and they filtered out all the smoke smell. Wow! It is so great to see that I am not the only one with a great experience with the filti filters! I bought green at the very beginning of all of this and made cotton fabric form fitting masks with the pocket for the filter. My family, me, my husband, my daughter, her daughter and her 1st grade daughter, along with my son, his wife, and two kids all have my masks, and I am realizing that none of us have gotten covid. I bought Filti last Spring (2020) and have used it in all of my family’s masks, and those that I made for my mother and father-in-law. I am a long-term cancer patient with other medical issues, 2 of my 5 children have asthma, etc., so it was crucial for me to choose a product that could truly keep us healthy. I am SO, SO, SO grateful for Filti! I couldn’t have had the confidence in my masks protecting us without it. We had a couple of missteps along the way, mostly due to teens putting their masks in the dryer and ruining the Filti layers, but now we are all much better about that. It’s strong enough to make your own n95 mask, and light enough to not make breathing difficult, and even my 4th grader is comfortable wearing hers all day. (Take that, ‘Karens’ of the world! Lol!) I have told so many people about them and keep the info sheet with me to show people. We’ve been given a huge wake-up with how vulnerable we are to pandemics, especially those of us who have lifelong illnesses and are immunocompromised, and it is products like Filti that will allow us to go forth with the peace of mind that we’re doing our parts to protects our families and our communities. It is so worth the investment, and in my opinion is priced very fairly, considering the demand and market conditions. The precut filters would be a worthwhile addition to any premade masks, and are affordable enough to be included in masks constructed by home sewists for sale. I’ve made over 250 masks with the filti material. I use them as filters. If you have a Cricut maker machine it cuts the material using the rotary blade. Think this is a great option.

I have been very impressed with filti material. At the beginning of the pandemic I just used filterete filters from my furnace and it was ok but not great. About March 2020 I heard about filti and bought my first pack. I’ve bought two more packs of the filter material. My kids wear masks that I make with the filter sewn into it to school and my husband and I wear them as well. It’s a great filter, pretty easy to breathe in; easy enough to do 8 hours in an airport and not have massive regrets. I am SO grateful for these filters. We’ve been using Filti inside of daughters masks. I had to sew masks (using my Cricut Maker) to fit her face snuggly. I’ve been putting these filters between the cotton layers of her masks since she returned to school last fall. In October 2021 her entire pod got sick, 2 confirmed cases of covid but by the end of week 2 all the kids were gone. She was the only one left in her pod. She was tested multiple times by PCR and rapid tests and all tests came back negative. I’m convinced that these filters help to keep her safe and healthy.

I placed my first order for the Filti fabric in the summer of 2020 and have purchased twice since.
I use the University of Florida Health 3d mask design. I modified the design with 3/8” elastic for the head straps and the addition of some 1/2” wide x 1/8” thick soft adhesive backed closed cell foam to help seal around my nose. I also use an outer layer of some other fabric to give the mask a little wear resistance and a nicer appearance.
I can get these masks to pass a fit test on my face, which is something I have difficulty doing with commercial N95 masks due to the shape of my nose.
This makes for easy breathing masks which are more pliable and more comfortable than commercial N95 masks.
I will be buying more of this material.
